Hot on the heels of the poster release, comes the teaser trailer for Tim Burton‘s Frankenweenie. This fun but macabre tale follows a young boy who brings his beloved dog Sparky back from the dead, with unexpected consequences. This is classic Burton stuff and I’m sure will thrill his fans no end.
Burton’s comic retelling of Frankenstien has come full circle. In 1984 his 30 minute live-action short film Frankenweenie had him fired from Disney – because it was deemed too dark for young audiences. Fast forward to 2012 and my have times have changed; with Disney now bringing Sparky and friends to the big screen as a full-length animated feature. It only took them 28 years to come around. Or perhaps Burton was just too far ahead of his time. Either way, I’m sure both are smiling now.
In another interesting snippet: Home Alone‘s Daniel Stern featured in the 1984 Frankenweenie short and Home Alone‘s Catherine O’Hara provides voice talent to the 2012 full-length feature.
Enjoy!
This is exactly what I was hoping for from this first trailer. The animation oozes Corpse Bride (not surprising given both films have the same animator, Trey Thomas) and the town has more than a hint of Edward Scissorhands about it. This will definitely be one for Burton fans. Non-Burton fans, however, may take more convincing.
If you weren’t excited before, are you now? What’s you favourite Burton stop-motion film?
