“Just play the game, Richard.” After some stunning official images were released for Eternity, this second feature film from Wellington director Alex Galvin now has a teaser trailer. And it’s a beauty.

A fan of classic murder mysteries, Galvin is looking to add a little of that old school intrigue into his new sci-fi film. This will be no ordinary romp, that’s for sure.

Disgraced detective Richard Manning (Elliot Travers) must enter a virtual world and solve a seemingly unsolvable crime in order to redeem his reputation. But things go awry and Richard finds it’s not just his career that’s on the line, but his very existence.

Hong Kong acts as the real world and New Zealand the virtual – both stunning settings for any mystery to unravel in.

Enjoy!

This teaser has a great feel to it. We don’t get to see many of the characters in context, but this only adds to the intrigue. Who is the lady on the beach? And what does the sinister looking old dude know that Richard doesn’t?

The film’s definitely got a bit of Gattaca about it. I’m loving Galvin’s use of architecture – it’s a character in itself. And that opening shot against the Hong Kong skyline is stunning.

I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more from this homegrown production. Along with the teaser trailer, an official website has been also launched – eternitythefilm.com

Are you loving the look of this film? Does the world need more intelligent scf-fi?

Eternity is a sci-fi mystery, set in the near future. A police detective, Richard Manning, is taking part in a futuristic computer game investigating the most difficult case of his career: a seemingly impossible locked room murder mystery of a wealthy property investor.

The more he investigates, the more complex the case seems to become. Richard begins to realize that there is far more going on than just one mystery, and his own future is at stake. His only chance to escape the game depends on him solving everything – and quickly.

Directed by Alex Galvin, the film stars Elliot Travers, Dean Knowsley, Amy Tsang, Geraldine Brophy, Liz Kirkman Ralph Johnson, Simon Vincent, and Jessica Manins.

Eternity is due to be released either late 2012 or early 2013. We’ll keep you posted when a release date comes to hand.
