‘Write. Shoot. Cut. Survive.’ This year’s V48 Hours Film Competition finalists have been announced. The winners will be crowned at the Grand Final ceremony on June 30, held at Auckland’s Civic Theatre. Get your tickets here. The Grand Final will also be available for non-Aucklanders to view via live streaming courtesy of NZHeraldOnline and TVNZ U.

Top prize, worth $60,000, will be awarded to the best short film from either the Grand National Finalist selections or Sir Peter Jackson‘s Wildcard Picks. The panel of national and international judges include Elijah Wood (actor, The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Larry Karaszewski (writer, Ed Wood, The People vs. Larry Flynt), Scott Foundas (film critic, Variety), Jen Yamato (film critic, Movieline.com, Rotten Tomatoes), and Eric Kohn (film critic, IndieWire).

Celebrating its 10th year, New Zealand’s world-renowned competition has grown enormously, from 44 entrants in 2003 to almost 800 in 2012. This year’s short films were made over the weekend of 18-20 May, with each having to contain certain elements, be made in a certain genre and, of course, be completed within 48 hours.

Admit One congratulates the finalists and all those who entered. Perhaps Admit One should enter a team next year?
