Cannes has finished for another year. But that’s not a bad thing, because I got to see some truly outstanding films once again – which is why I love Cannes so much.
It’s been another cracker year that, like last year, didn’t look as strong paper as it was on screen.
I truly hope you get to see the best films on my list. Hunt them out, if you have to. I’m hoping many of these will come to NZIFF and, of course, my Terror-Fi Film Festival.
As always, there were several hidden gems in amongst the more notable films – BORDER being the biggest and best surprise of the year. But topping BORDER were three films that will have me debating which was the best for months to come… COLD WAR, CAPHARNAUM and Palme d’Or winner SHOPLIFTERS.
